What is AME?
Amddiffyn Mynydd Epynt (AME) is a community-led organisation formed to protect the landscapes, ecosystems, and wellbeing of the Nant Brân and Epynt region.
Are you opposed to renewable energy?
No. AME supports renewable energy that is well-planned, appropriately sited, and environmentally responsible. Our concerns focus on developments that risk doing more harm than good.
What is the Garreg Fawr Energy Park?
It is a large-scale wind farm proposed by Bute Energy/Green GEN Cymru. It includes multiple turbines, access tracks, substations, and associated grid infrastructure.
Why is Epynt a sensitive area?
The region contains peatlands, protected habitats, intricate hydrology, important birdlife, cultural heritage, and a distinctive upland landscape valued by residents and visitors.
What is the DNS process?
Developments of National Significance (DNS) are handled by Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW). Community input is essential, and AME works to support informed participation.
Will the development affect local roads?
Yes. Construction requires heavy goods vehicles, abnormal loads, and significant road alterations. These can impact farms, businesses, and communities.
What about noise?
Noise, including low-frequency noise and infrasound, depends on turbine type, terrain, and wind conditions. Assessments must be independently reviewed, especially in complex upland areas.
